Happy New Year!

It's a new year! Happy New Year to you.

I'm not sure where 2010 went but I am loving the freshness and renewed energy that comes with the new year. I love looking toward to the future and dreaming over the possibilities of what could be. I also like reflecting on what actually happened. Some things happened as planned while other events occured that I never would have imagined. I stopped doing hard and fast resolutions and instead create guiding principles that I want to live by to improve me. For some reason when I create these, they always have a more/ less type of theme. Here goes for 2011:

Risk MORE to fear LESS
FOCUSED DISCIPLINE for UNRESTRICTED living
Do LESS to Do MORE
Give MORE consume LESS
Communicate MORE with my heart and talk LESS with my mouth

Man I feel so energetic about 2011. How did you bring in the new year? I spent it at church with about 80 kids ages 5-11. It was a blast.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I turned 35 this week! It seems like such a mature age. I'm still trying to process it all. This birthday milestone has me pondering some things about my life - you know those deep questions. At the same time I'm very excited about what the future holds. Let me tell you that cake was so good, amaretto buttercream with white chocolate shavings- YUM!

Stylin Eye Patch

My daughter needs to wear an eye patch for a few hours a day and the Dr. prescribed the adhesive kind. From what I hear these can be pretty irritating, peel off when the kid gets hot and sweaty, and not to mention expensive if you buy the pretty ones - the ones they will actually wear. So a crafty mother thinks to herself I'm sure I can make something... Initially I made a pirate style one but she kept snapping the band and the material I selected was uncomfortable. Plan B, jump on-line and see what's out there. Lo and behind another crafty mama has already created a tutorial to make a fabric eye patch. Amanda Adams at LucyKate Crafts designed a eye patch for her daughter and has shared the love. She has an in-depth tutorial that is super easy to follow. I already had everything on hand to make one. More of these to come in lighter natural materials. This one is felt.

If you have to wear an eye patch you might as well have a stylin one, right?

It just hooks on the stem of the glasses and has a pocket that the lens slides into

Two Blogs Too Much

Hmm... I am thinking more and more about consolidating my blogs. I can't keep up with both. I originally started the the other to focus on sewing and crafting and having this one for personal things but it is hard to separate and categorize yourself. What goes there, what goes here. Should I double post or post the same thing in both places? I like both names but and I don't know which one to choose. Ahh decisions, decisions. We'll see... Anyways, I have made a few things recently that I posted @creativesewl. With all the rain in Georgia, our basement did get some water so creative space is in total disarray. I made a skirt for my daughter using the dining room table. The change of scenery was actually refreshing. It was nice to be part of the flow of the house rather than isolated in the basement. Both situations have there pluses. The tough part about being in the house is keeping those little hands from exploring my machines and having to pack everything away real time. I'll get things back in order soon - I hope.

Have a great weekend.

Back

I've been on Spring Break 09 for a minute huh? The kids came back and it takes about a week to get them back into the swing of things. When they stay with the grandparents its like a all-inclusive resort - so they come back a tad bit spoiled. The decibel level in the house has returned, sibling squabbles are frequent, and peaceful sleep is sketchy. But there are cheeks to be kissed, bellies, armpits and toes to be tickled and endless games of hide-n-go-seek to be played. Yep, life is normal again. I even had 3 babysitting gigs last week so that made life even more exciting. These were barters so they will watch our little ones in return when we need a break. I'm back...

More & Less Resolutions

I typically have a few resolutions that I make every year. They are usually quite lengthy and complex but not this year. I am just going to try to do more of what I love and less of what does not make me happy. Now I do have goals for the year but that's different. Here are my specific resolutions:

1. Laugh more and stress less.
2. Listen more and talk less (this includes yell less, my children will appreciate this one).
3. Do more and dream less (nothing wrong with dreaming but action is required).

I thought this was a cute pic - relates to resolution #1

Peace and Well Wishes for the New Year!
