I'm Back and Snowshoe 2010

I can't believe it has been so long! The last few months have been busy busy. I didn't even say Happy New Year! I know it's March - shame on me. Well back in February, we took a family vacation to Snowshoe, WV. The Little Guy finally got on skis for the first time! He didn't last that long and was more interested in eating the snow but it was a start. With all the snowfall on the east coast the conditions were great and they even extended their season to April. The Hubby was very happy to have everyone on the slopes at once. It was a first and he can't wait for years to come when we all can swish around the mountain together. I think it is seriously time for skis, I feel to old to snowboard. I think I said that last year. Pics of the trip.

A Magic Moment

Is it okay to backblog? Well I'm doing it. I want to capture a significant event that happened this year.
Some fathers can not wait until their first born utters their first word or learns to walk. For others it is that first day of school or learning to ride a bike. For mine husband, it is skiing. He has been anxiously awaiting for my daughter to get on skis. He researched the proper age that she could attend ski school and talked to a ski instructor to get tips. That magical moment happened in February during our trip to Snowshoe, WV.

It wasn't all magical -- there was a little bit of mayhem mixed in. She only lasted 45 minutes in ski school (which is 3 hours long). It was a "no skin exposure" day so it was pretty rough conditions. They took a break for hot cocoa and she told the instructor that she was not going back out there. My hubby took this news like a champ and let her ski around with him for the rest of the day. The next morning she declared she didn't want to go skiing anymore. Uh-oh. After much encouragement we got her back out there for 2 more days and she loved it. She saw daddy do a jump and she said "Look daddy, I can do that too," and did a little jump. It was so cute. It was truly a special occasion for my hubby.

Mother Nature

We got a call from Delta airlines Tuesday evening, saying our flight was canceled due to the anticipation of inclement weather. We rebooked for a day earlier and hauled rump to get everything together to get out. As we are driving to the airport (Wednesday) it starts snowing, what are the odds since we live in Georgia. As we are waiting to get de-iced, The pilot comes on and says that we are delayed by an hour, okay I can handle that. He came on again and said it would be another hour. Okay, cool - no worries. Well 5 hours later, yes that totals 7 hours on the plane he tells us that we can not fly due to FAA regulations. The crew had exceeded their on duty time. What! There was no food well peanuts, cheese/crackers, water, and OJ. Thank God I had some nutrition bars and fruit. I am not very pleasant when I'm hungry.
We get off the plane and rush to the ticketing gate to figure out what's next. There were about 500 people in line in front of us - seriously. We stood in line for about 30 minutes and I swear there were about 1000 folks that joined the line. It was nuts! We got Delta on the phone via cellphone because there was no way we could stay in line that long. They only had a flight with a layover meaning 10 hours of travel time. By the way we would need to be back at the airport in less than 5 hours - I think it was 1 am by now. Our luggages was still going to Salt Lake City even if we decided not to go, it was a royal mess. We had to file a claim to get it back to Atlanta. Yes another line. Anyway we got a cab - that took another 30 minutes and went home to decide what to do and eat (about 2:30am).
We opted not to fly out today (Thursday), we just didn't have the mental and physical stamina for 10 hours of travel time. We plan to try again on Saturday though we don't know where our luggage is. Bummer, yeah I know. The crazy thing is that all the flights that left later than ours were able to depart on time because they were not in Atlanta when it snowed and didn't require deicing.

We went to bed about 3ish and we were back up at 7ish this morning to find this.

One of our huge pine trees fell and broke through the fence into our neighbors yard. Got to love MOTHER NATURE.
